Shuksan Meadows Playground in Bellingham, WA

We stopped by Shuksan Meadows playground located off of W. Maplewood and had a great time. They are doing construction at the Shuksan Middle School so it looked like the park was closed but it was actually fenced around it. So if you have a little one who likes to watch construction and play in the playground this might be the perfect spot.

The playground had lots to offer for different ages. My boys had fun climbing all over the big part and especially like that the overhead bars were in a circle instead of straight. The park offered a whole separate area for the swings and another separate area of a toddle park with a big purple dinosaur.

We arrived about 8:45 and never saw another person so we had the whole park to ourselves. Compared to the other parks we have stopped by I think that this one has been a little abused but seemed very well kept and it was nice that it had a couple of tables to sit at. The other part that I really thought was great was that each area was completely separate and had a small wall around it so if you are in the Northwest neighborhood be sure to stop and stretch your legs at this fun little park.

Roosevelt Park Bellingham Washington

Roosevelt Park is located off of busy Alabama at the end of a dead end street. The first time we found it we couldn't believe how futuristic it looked. My boys think it is a really cool playground. I felt like it was a "Extreme" playground because we spent most of our time trying to figure out what to do with it. Which was half the fun. It is not your traditional playground but there is a lot to climb, scale, ride, and turn. There is a huge spinning circle that you can ride or walk on that test your balance and agility. So if you have some young explorers with tons of energy then this is your park.

There are three parts to the playground area. The large playground, the swing set and the toddler playground. The toddler playground seems to be a bit more on the traditional side. The park does have some picnic tables, a huge field with basketball courts and a skate ramp on the other side. There is also a very big hill in between the playgrounds. There is a great walkway around the whole area that would be perfect for bikes, skateboards or strollers. We visited first thing in the morning and it was very hot. So if you plan to visit be prepared to be in direct sunlight because there wasn't any shade to be found. I would think this playground would be good for all ages and it never seems to be to busy. Here our Mason and Cody posing on the skate ramp.

Mason and Cody at Bloedel Donovan Boat Launch

Bloedel Donovan Park Lake Whatcom

Bloedel Donovan Park is such a great place. It is located on Lake Whatcom off of Electric Ave and has plenty for the whole family to do. We explored the park early on a weekday and it was quite empty except for people and their dogs. Their wasn't a single person in the playground or at the boat launch but I am sure as the day goes by it fills up quickly.

The park has a huge playground that seems to have something to do for the whole family. My boys thought the variations in slides and the mountain wall were pretty cool. The rest of the park also has a lot of picnic tables, water to swim, a volleyball court and a boat launch. There is a huge building you can rent and a smaller building you can rent through the parks and recreation which is great for birthday parties.
Bloedel Donovan park is another great treasure to Whatcom County. Many kids have spent their summer playing on its giant lawns. It is a special place that everyone should visit and a wonderful way to get on the water.

Elizabeth Park Playground Bellingham Washington

As a summer adventure my boys (Mason and Cody) and I are going to spend some time exploring the different playgrounds of Whatcom County in the beautiful state of Washington. Our first stop this morning was Elizabeth Park. This park is so wonderful because it has something to offer for the whole family. The playground is aimed at 5-11 year olds but it does offer at least 5 different sized slides and toys for toddlers to sit on. It also has 2 regular swings and two toddler swings. Besides the great playground it has a basketball court, tennis court and a gazebo. There are picnic tables scattered all about and the whole park is just beautiful. It can be found at Elizabeth and Madison. I think if you want to spend a day with the whole family then pack a picnic and plan to stay awhile. If you know of any great local playgrounds we can visit please let us know.
